Medical & Dental Programs

Clinical Medical Assisting

At San Joaquin Valley College, we’re committed to providing students with the basic skills they need to start their careers. Our Clinical Medical Assisting certificate program in Hesperia can prepare you for a role in Medical Assisting in as little as nine months, or you can earn an Associate of Science Degree in Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting in as few as 15 months. During your time as a student, you will gain training in: 

  • Venipuncture 
  • Patient exam preparation
  • Vital sign measurement
  • Appointment scheduling
  • Patient records and upkeep

Upon completion, you will also be eligible to sit for the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) exam. SJVC prepares students to take appropriate certification and licensure exams related to their individual majors. The College does not guarantee students will successfully pass these exams or be certified or licensed as a result of completing the program.

Dental Assisting

Dental Assistants are essential members of any dental practice. SJVC’s Dental Assisting program in Hesperia can give you knowledge, training, and expertise for entry-level employment. 

Here’s a list of skills you will learn as a Dental Assisting student:

  • Dental software
  • Coronal polishing
  • Preventive dentistry
  • Dental practice management
  • Dental anatomy and radiology

At SJVC, you could earn a certificate of completion in as little as 11 months while obtaining credentials in Dental Radiation Safety, CPR, Infection Control, and Dental Law and Ethics. In addition, graduates are also eligible to take the Dental Board of California Examination for state licensure.

Pharmacy Technology

The Pharmacy Technology program at SJVC’s Hesperia campus helps students reach their full potential by covering basic skills and hands-on pharmaceutical practices. 

By completion, students will be able to understand:

  • Computer data entry
  • Inventory management
  • Prescription processing
  • Pharmacy law and ethics
  • Pharmacy science & clinical applications

Start now to earn a Certificate of Completion in as few as nine months or a Pharmacy Technician Associate of Science degree in as few as 15 months. Graduates are eligible to apply for licensure with the California State Board of Pharmacy. Students qualify to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) upon successful completion of practice exams administered during their course of study and with the approval of the Pharmacy Liaison.

Business Office Administration

San Joaquin Valley College’s Business Office Administration program in Hesperia is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their careers.

Criminal Justice: Corrections

SJVC’s Criminal Justice: Corrections program in Hesperia explores the operational, legal and theoretical concepts of law enforcement. In as little as 14 months, you could be primed for a career in the public or private sector of criminal justice. Graduates can also earn the following industry certifications: 

  • Standards and Training for Corrections (STC)
  • Adult Core Academy, which includes 8-hour Baton, and Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) certified training in: 
    • Baton
    • Firearms
    • Public Relations
    • Powers to Arrest
    • Chemical Agents
    • Weapons of Mass Destruction
    • Observations and Documentation
    • Communications and its significance related to Liability and Legal Aspects

In addition to certified training, the BSIS Exposed Firearms Permits may only be issued to applicants who are 21 years of age or older (effective January 1, 2020). Individuals who do not meet the new age requirement will be provided alternate training during the firearm sessions, and are welcome to pursue the certification after they meet the age requirement.

Trades & Industrial Programs

Electrical Technology

The Electrical Technology program at SJVC’s Hesperia campus focuses on teaching students about electricity, electrical equipment, and the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. Whether you’re learning about electrical blueprint reading or motor controls, we have everything you need to begin an entry-level career in Electrical Technology. You can earn a Certificate of Completion in as few as ten months or an Associate of Science Degree in as little as 14 months.

Graduates are eligible to take the California General Electrician’s Certification Exam, administered by the California Department of Industrial Relations (DiR). In order to be certified as a General Electrician in the State of California, pursuant to certification standards established by the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, an applicant must pass a certification examination and complete 8000 hours of work for a C-10 electrical contractor installing, constructing, or maintaining electrical systems covered by the National Electrical Code.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R)

As a Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) technician, your duties will include installing new systems and repairing or maintaining existing systems. San Joaquin Valley College’s HVAC-R program in Hesperia allows students to earn a certificate of completion in as few as 10 months or an Associate of Science Degree in as little as 14 months. During the program, you will learn job-ready skills like:

  • Electrical theories
  • Heating and cooling principles
  • How to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems
  • Proper installation, servicing and replacement techniques
