What is The DAISY Foundation?

An acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, The DAISY Foundation was formed in November 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family. I have had the pleasure of learning under Mrs.Campbell since I started the LVN program in October of 2021, Mrs.Campbell was first my clinical instructor teacher, and let me tell you she is OUTSTANDING! she embodies everything that nursing is! she is patient, kind, strict and has so much knowledge that she continuously pours into our brain. She has multiple businesses and also works a second job and never complains. She always maintains a positive attitude and speaks so gracefully. Now I have the pleasure of having Mrs. Campbell as my theory teacher and my grades have never looked better. Although our workload has increased she makes learning fun and connects the dots every step of the way. Outside of the educational guidance, Mrs.Campbell is a wonderful mentor educationally and personally, she’s helped me with my attitude and has given me tools that I will carry with me every step of the way.

Ms.Campbell always pushes me to do my best. She never lets me settle for less. She always assures that her students understand whatever we are learning and doesn’t make us feel belittled. She’s an amazing instructor and our class has got lucky with her. I haven’t felt more assured of my wanting to be a nurse as I do now.

Ms. Campbell takes the time and effort to help her students whether the problem may be big or small. She never discriminates against a human being and treats everyone equally. I can talk to her almost about anything within her scope of practice and life. I am truly grateful for someone as organized, kind, and passionate.

I have had the privilege of having Charity as an instructor for the last year. She has become not only an instructor and mentor but a friend as well. She has always answered any questions that I have with a smile on her face. If there was a problem at clinicals she was professional about it and worked around it. She is a professional along with being a fun-loving person.

Eduardo Ellenich
San Joaquin Valley College – Rancho Mirage
Rancho Mirage, CA
United States

Ed has been the best classmate and future coworker to work with. From the start of the VN program, he has shared knowledge and stories most of us have never known or heard. He is a gentleman towards his classmates containing all females and acts his best every day in class and clinical. He has helped me personally with school and with life outside and I can’t be any more grateful. He helped me bring confidence in nursing and more I never thought I had. The best of me has been brought out thanks to him. I thank the school for accepting me in this program and for a student like Eduardo who understands people, including myself. Any facility and/or hospital would be lucky; more than lucky to have Eduardo work among them.

Ed is a very hard-working determined individual. Despite his hardships, he keeps a smile on his face and makes others feel heard, and is always wanting to help others. He has determination and drive in everything he does. He is a great student and very hardworking. He is a great individual who always focuses on putting others first.

Ed Ellenich has shown so much growth throughout the years. He has proved so many individuals wrong in choosing this profession. He is hard-working and always willing to improve himself and those around him. He is a great leader and takes constructive criticism very well. When leaving the armed forces, I was not in the right head space at the time and I became very destructive, not only to myself but to the people around me. Ed supported me when no one else would. He helped me out of a deep hole and I have been thankful for that ever since. I am now in college and aiming for a degree in computer science. I thank him every day for his support.
