Opened in 2025, San Joaquin Valley College in San Leandro offers a hands-on, career-focused Electrical Technology program to students interested in pursuing electricity-related careers. A Convenient Bay Area Campus
The SJVC San Leandro campus is located at the intersection of E 14th Street and Fairmount Drive. The campus offers Electrical Technology training to students from San Leandro and surrounding communities, including San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, and Castro Valley. Students can access the campus using AC Transit and nearby BART stations.
In addition to the Electrical Technology program, students have access to online library resources, a Student Success Center, and support from enrollment, financial, and career services.

Electrical Technology
Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical power, communications, lighting, and control systems in homes, businesses, and factories, and may work in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. (1) According to Build California, the demand for electricians in Northern California through 2030 is “extreme,” making the job market favorable for skilled individuals. (2)
SJVC’s Electrical Technology program provides students with hands-on, practical training, including how to install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and systems safely, competently, and professionally. The program helps students learn effective techniques and best practices in the field and prepares them for a range of roles, including:
- Electrician
- Electrical Technician
- Solar Energy Technician/Installer
- Security and Fire Alarm System Installer

Hands-On Learning and Student Resources
Electrical Technology is a hands-on field. Reflecting this, the SJVC San Leandro campus provides practical instruction in electrical concepts, installation, maintenance, safety, testing, and troubleshooting through hands-on labs where students can practice their skills in a safe environment.
Outside of the classroom and labs, students find the Student Success Center’s reference materials, textbooks, journals, and computers helpful. The library website offers additional online resources so that students can study at home as well as on campus.
