Vocational Nursing

Business & Criminal Justice Programs
Criminal Justice: Corrections
Correctional officers play an important role in the criminal justice system. When you earn an Associate of Science Degree in corrections, you’ll possess knowledge in institutional management, safety, and supervision.
The SJVC Criminal Justice program in Santa Maria will enable you to focus on the following certifications for career advancement.
- Standards and Training for Corrections (STC)
- Adult Core Academy, which includes 8-hour Baton, and Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) certified training in:
- Baton
- Public Relations
- Powers to Arrest
- Chemical Agents
- Weapons of Mass Destruction
- Observations and Documentation
- Communications and its significance related to Liability and Legal Aspects
Effective January 1, 2020, BSIS Exposed Firearms Permits may only be issued to applicants who are 21 years of age or older. Individuals who do not meet the new age requirement will be provided alternate training during the firearm sessions, and are welcome to pursue the certification after they meet the age requirement.

SJVC’s Santa Maria, CA location is one of our newest campuses, established in 2019! We offer accelerated career training programs for students interested in the medical, business, industrial or trades fields.
We are conveniently located in Santa Maria near the corner of Stowell Road and Broadway and can be reached easily by bus on Santa Maria Area Transit (SMAT) routes 1, 5, 45 and 61
