Dental Assisting Students Participate in the Kid’s Fair

October 16, 2012

Dental Assisting Students at the 2012 Kid's Fair Our Dental Assisting students are out and about again!

SJVC Dental assisting students got yet another opportunity this year to participate in the community – this time at Kids Fair 2012.

Kids Fair is sponsored by Tulare County Association of Realtors and is a yearly event in Visalia held to promote raising healthy kids.  The event supports The Jeff Barnes Brain Injury Foundation and the Salvation Army-Visalia.

SJVC DA students had the chance to educate the kids on how to brush and gave nutritional information on healthy and unhealthy snacks.

Julie Hill, the Visalia SJVC Dental Assisting Clinical Coordinator, organized the SJVC booth while students Scott Garza, Alyssa Flores and Alejandra Calderon spent their time educating children and their parents on how to properly take care of their teeth.

“You can see the enjoyment on our student’s faces while teaching the children! I love that,” exclaimed Cynthia Flores SJVC’s RDH.

The kids really enjoyed the interaction with the puppets, which showed the kids how to brush teeth. Our students really enjoy giving back to the community.

“I know the children had a lot of fun because they kept coming back to brush the teeth of the stuffed animals,” explained dental assisting student Alyssa Flores.

In addition to teaching them tips to have healthier dental hygiene, they gave out toothbrushes and toothpaste.  SJVC was represented well to the entire community!

“It was a lot of fun,” exclaimed Alyssa, “answering the parents and kids questions made me feel important to someone’s life!”

Great Job SJVC Dental Assisting Students!
