Established in 2019, the Fresno – Trades Education Center (TEC) serves students and employers in Fresno and neighboring communities. This trade school was originally founded in 1991 as the Fresno – Aviation Campus and is designed to house the Aviation Maintenance Technology and Electrical Technology programs, as well as other trades-education programs.
The Fresno – Trades Education Center prepares students in Central California for the booming industrial trades. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, national employment of general maintenance and repair workers is projected to grow 7.9% between 2016 2026¹, with electricians expected to grow by 8.9%² and aircraft mechanic and service technician jobs forecast to grow 4.9%³.
There are many career options for a well-trained trades professional. If you enjoy a dynamic, hands-on career, then repairing aircraft or working as an electrician may be the right choice for you.
Plus, according to our partner Generation T4, an organization committed to encouraging students to attend trades school, by 2028 there will be 3 million job openings in the skilled trades.
Our programs are supported by statewide regulators and employers. Our Electrical Technology program is approved by the California Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and our Aviation Maintenance Technology program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. Department of Transportation and also has an apprenticeship program with SkyWest.
Students at our Fresno – Trades Education Center have the opportunity to not only learn the skills they need for a career they love, but also get a fulfilling student experience. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs and events, including:
● Associated Student Body (ASB)
● Annual celebration of Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) Day on May 24th
● Barbecues to celebrate the end of midterms
● Book drives to benefit the United Way
● Food drives to help local veterans
In the Aviation Maintenance Technology program, students have the opportunity to work on both the body of aircraft and engines of all types and sizes. Some of our equipment includes a model-sized jet engine called JetCat. With the JetCat, students get to run an actual jet engine and use real-time diagnostic readouts to troubleshoot the engine’s systems. Graduates are prepared to test for an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license through the FAA.
Also among our school’s offerings is our Electrical Technology program, where students can earn a Certificate of Completion in as few as 10 months, or an Associate of Science degree in as few as 14 months. All graduates are eligible and prepared to sit for the California General Electrician’s Certification Exam. Students in the program learn electrical conduit bending, electric circuitry and residential, commercial, and industrial wiring, electrical blueprint reading, and more.
