Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical power, communications, lighting, and control systems in homes, businesses, and factories. They also work in various settings, like factories or residential properties. The duties of an electrician depend on where they work. These tasks can include anything from:
- Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems
- Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers
- Identify electrical problems using a variety of testing devices
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using handtools and power tools
At San Joaquin Valley College, you’ll learn how to install, maintain, and
repair electrical equipment and systems in a safe, competent, and professional manner. Our Electrical Technology program is designed to help students learn effective techniques and best practices in the field.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) technicians install, maintain, and repair temperature control equipment found in modern homes and commercial businesses. No matter where you live, there is always a need for HVAC-R technicians.
SJVC’s HVAC-R program is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment, as we provide career training in:
- Heating and cooling principles
- Electrical theories
- Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems
- Proper installation, servicing, and replacement techniques
Enroll in our HVAC classes now and earn a Certificate of Completion in as few as ten months. Graduates also have the opportunity to earn EPA 608 certification.
SJVC prepares students to take appropriate certification and licensure exams related to their individual majors. The College does not guarantee students will successfully pass these exams or be certified or licensed as a result of completing the program.
