Last week, SJVC hosted its Skilled Trades Night across multiple campuses, providing community members with an excellent opportunity to explore career-focused training programs firsthand.
On Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., students, families, and local residents visited SJVC campuses to tour facilities, watch live demonstrations, and explore the training equipment used in various trades. Enrollment, financial, and career services teams were also on hand to answer questions about admissions, tuition options, and potential career pathways.
The event highlighted several SJVC programs, including:
- Construction Management (SJVC Ontario): Preparing students to manage residential and commercial construction projects, ensuring safety and compliance. The program offers an Associate of Science degree in as few as 14 months.
 - Electrical Technology: Training students to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems with practical experience in wiring, lighting, and troubleshooting. Graduates are eligible to sit for the California General Electrician’s Certification Exam.
 - Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R): Equipping students to become HVAC-R technicians, with certification possible in as little as 10 months.
 - Aviation Maintenance Technology (Fresno – Trades Education Center): Preparing students to perform maintenance on aircraft airframes and engines, focusing on turbine and jet engines, FAA standards, and aircraft repair.
 - Maintenance Technician: Offering hands-on training in industrial systems and equipment, with a certificate achievable in as few as seven months, preparing students for entry-level maintenance roles.

Robyn Whiles, President of SJVC, shared her excitement about the event: “Our Skilled Trades Night at SJVC gave prospective students and their families a chance to experience our programs directly. It was a great opportunity to connect with our campuses, meet our faculty and staff, and learn how SJVC supports students in preparing for meaningful careers in their communities.”
