Local HVAC Company Highlights the Value of Skilled Technicians and Community Training

National HVAC Tech Day on June 22 recognizes the skilled professionals who help keep homes and businesses comfortable year-round. HVAC technicians install, maintain, and repair systems that play an essential role in daily life. For many companies in the industry, building the next generation of technicians starts by connecting with local training programs and creating opportunities for graduates entering the field.

In Hemet, California, AQS Heating & Air Conditioning has built its reputation on a combination of technical expertise and customer service. The residential HVAC company provides air conditioning and heating service, repair, and replacement for homeowners throughout the region. The team also focuses on improving attic efficiency through ductwork replacement, system optimization, and attic insulation to help improve energy performance inside the home.

According to AQS Manager Michael Hernandez, integrity plays a central role in how the company approaches its work.

“Our integrity sets us apart,” Hernandez said. “AQS and our technicians truly love what we do and enjoy helping those in our community and throughout the Inland Empire. We are honest and fair, which can be seen through our more than 1,500 Google reviews.”

AQS also maintains strong ties to the local community. The company has supported a variety of local initiatives, including sponsoring a high school band, helping clear hiking trails following regional fires, and supporting a local jiu-jitsu gym so students who cannot afford tuition can continue training.

Like SJVC, AQS Heating & Air Conditioning is a family-owned and operated business, a shared value that places a strong emphasis on relationships, integrity, and long-term community impact.

Creating Opportunities for New Technicians

Companies that provide HVAC services depend on trained technicians who are prepared to work safely, communicate with customers, and solve technical problems in the field. At AQS, developing those skills often begins with entry-level opportunities that allow new technicians to gain hands-on experience.

“Most new hires start as an install helper,” Hernandez said. “This helps them learn firsthand how the systems work and how they are installed. Based on how well they progress they can move into an install lead role or a service technician role.”

While technical knowledge is important, Hernandez noted that personal qualities are just as important for success in the field.

“Customer service is huge,” he said. “We like our team members to be outgoing, friendly, have good communication skills and a strong work ethic.”

An EPA certification and a clean driving record are also helpful qualifications for individuals entering the HVAC field.

Connecting Local Training with Local Careers

Employers often rely on career training programs to help prepare technicians for entry-level roles. SJVC offers a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) program that provides hands-on training for careers in the industry, including at its campus in Temecula, California.

According to the college’s Impact Report, from 2022-2024 SJVC locations in California prepared more than 790 certificate level graduates for careers in the HVAC-R field.

Graduates from SJVC’s Temecula campus have worked with AQS in entry-level roles over the years. Hernandez said those graduates have brought valuable qualities to the job.

“SJVC graduates have been ready to hit the ground running and have had great work ethics and positive attitudes,” Hernandez said.

He added that many demonstrate strong motivation once they enter the field.

“They have a willingness to learn and a strong drive,” he said.

The Importance of Local Workforce Training

As HVAC systems continue to evolve and homes become more energy-efficient, ongoing training plays an important role for technicians entering the field. Employers benefit from workers who are prepared to continue learning as new equipment and technologies are introduced.

“This industry is constantly evolving,” Hernandez said. “Training is important so you can stay up to date and be able to provide services that can make homeowners’ lives even easier and more comfortable.”

Hiring locally trained technicians can also strengthen connections between businesses and the communities they serve.

“Hiring local talent is a plus not only for accessibility but also for the connection to the community,” Hernandez said.

For students preparing to enter the HVAC field, Hernandez encourages curiosity and integrity.

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions,” he said. “Learn from others’ experiences, do not jeopardize your integrity and surround yourself with people who want to win and who want to see you win.”

A Career That Makes a Difference

HVAC technicians often see the results of their work immediately when a home becomes comfortable again after a repair or installation. That impact is one of the reasons many professionals remain in the field for years.

“This industry is a great way to help people,” Hernandez said. “It’s rewarding leaving with that sense of accomplishment knowing you truly helped someone be comfortable in their home.”

Relationships between employers and training programs help make those opportunities possible. Through connections with local companies such as AQS Heating & Air Conditioning, graduates from SJVC’s Temecula campus can continue building their skills while serving homeowners throughout the Inland Empire.
