Accreditation & Approvals

What Accreditation Is and Why It Matters

Accreditation is the process for evaluating and assuring the quality of education used by the American higher education community. Through accreditation, the higher education community shoulders the responsibility for monitoring the quality of the programs and services of member institutions.

Institutional Accreditation

San Joaquin Valley College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, 10 Commercial Blvd., Suite 204, Novato, CA 94949, (415) 506-0234, an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. Additional information about accreditation, including the filing of complaints against member institutions, can be found at www.accjc.org.

2019 ACCJC Re-Accreditation Process

SJVC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). Once accreditation is granted, ACCJC member institutions undergo a self-evaluation every seven years in order to maintain their accredited status.  SJVC is currently undergoing the self-evaluation process.

Notice: A team composed of individuals from other ACCJC-accredited institutions will conduct a multi-day site visit to SJVC during March 11-14, 2019. A sampling of SJVC campuses will be visited. The team will document its findings and conclusions in a report that will be submitted to the ACCJC. The ACCJC will make a decision on SJVC’s accredited status at its bi-annual meeting in June or July 2019.

ACCJC Now Accepting Third-Party Comments

Providing a third-party comment assists the Commission as it considers applications for candidacy, accreditation, or reaffirmation of accreditation. Such comments must be submitted in writing, signed, and accompanied by the affiliation, return address and telephone number of the correspondent. Individuals who wish to make comments must use the Third-Party Comments Form.

Comments may be submitted at any time. The Commission meets every January and June to take action on its member institutions. Third-party comments should be submitted to the Commission five weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.

If an individual wishes to make comments in connection with SJVC’s re-accreditation, the third-party comment must be received by the Commission no later than five weeks before the evaluation team visit. This provides appropriate time for review by the external evaluation team. The team evaluation of third-party comments will become part of the Commission review of the college at the scheduled Commission meeting. Institutions will be provided an opportunity to review applicable third-party comments. All applicable third-party comments will be provided to the Commission for consideration.

SJVC encourages you to check this page regularly for updates regarding the Self-Evaluation, Site Visit and ACCJC Re-accreditation Process.
