Because online learning takes place through a computer instead of in a classroom, it’s important that you have the right equipment before getting started. These are the technical requirements needed for SJVC online programs.

Software Requirements

  1. PCs should have Windows 8 or Windows 10 operating system.
  2. If a Mac or Chromebook is being used, please inform your Admissions Representative.
  3. Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) is used in the SJVC online computer courses. You will receive a copy of Microsoft Office.
  4. Internet Explorer 10 for Windows is the recommended web browser.
  5. Mobile devices are not supported.

Security

It is important that students protect their computers. It can take only a few seconds for a vulnerable machine to be attacked and compromised. In order to safely connect and to protect your computer from risk:

  1. Install antivirus software.
  2. Set the antivirus software to update DAILY.
  3. Set Windows Update to install automatically.
  4. Avoid file sharing services, such as Limewire and Frostwire, as they act as a breeding ground for viruses and worms.
  5. DSL/Broadband users should set up a firewall, preferably a stand-alone device, such as a DSL/Cable router, rather than a software firewall.

Network connections

DSL/Cable internet connection required. Dial up and cellular air cards are not supported.
