SJVC wins CAPPS Excellence in Community Service Award

May 3, 2019

The California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) recently awarded San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) the 2019 Excellence in Community Service Silver Award.

The CAPPS Excellence in Community Service Awards recognize schools that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their local community. The awards are given annually to honor and encourage initiatives in community service and civic engagement.

Anthony Romo, SJVC’s Vice President of Enrollment and Graduate Services, recently accepted the award on behalf of SJVC at the conference and awards luncheon in Sacramento.

“Community service is an important part of SJVC and this award highlights our commitment to creating an educational experience not only in the classroom, but also through a platform for students and staff to serve the community and make a positive impact,” Romo says. “Service-enabled classes also generate better retention, engagement, learning outcomes, and overall student satisfaction, which are essential components of SJVC.”

As part of the ceremony, each award winner produced a short video presentation highlighting their community service initiatives. Click here to watch SJVC’s video.

“We are honored to be recognized for the amazing work all our students, faculty and associates do in the community,” Romo adds. “SJVC was founded for the local community and will continue serving it in each location.”

The CAPPS Excellence in Community Service Awards were presented on April 9, 2019, at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento as part of the CAPPS 2019 Legislative Policy Conference.
