Information Technology program provides four concentrations, plus industry certifications prep for top jobs

November 4, 2015

Information Technology ConcentrationsFor those who want to break into the Information Technology (IT) field, SJVC offers the whole package to position Online IT students for those top-notch positions.

Four versatile concentrations allow students to specialize in their primary areas of interest: Web Development, Database Administration and Information Security, in addition to Networking and Telecommunications.

“These four areas are the pillars of the IT world,” says Robert Vasile, IT Online instructor. “Everything revolves around these concentrations.”

The backbone of any concentration choice is industry certifications. SJVC’s Information Technology program puts great emphasis on student preparation for certifications, which are key to landing first-choice positions.

Students recognize the strength of IT concentrations and the value of stringent preparation for coveted certifications. “Because of the certification, alone, I had the manager at my local CompTIA testing center tell me he is bidding me into one of his upcoming networking contracts,” says Joshua Lute, IT Online student.

SJVC Online IT program is flexible and offers students a single or double scope of education and expertise. They can select a single concentration that matches their primary interest or, once they complete that concentration, they can pick a second concentration and expand their knowledge, credentials and opportunity base.

“This is a career-oriented program where students can take a core block of classes to earn either a certificate or degree,” says Robert. “During their studies, we prepare them to take the industry certification exam that is the most recognized for that concentration. A certification review course is provided for all students.”

“I’m an IT dork, and this program validates who I am to the world,” says Joshua . “You should only do this program because you love doing this (IT) and love learning.”

Students who opt for the 7-month Certificate credential level take foundational courses in computer hardware and software, while they undertake one of the four concentrations. Students in the 14-month A.S. degree level program take the same foundational courses and two areas of concentration.
