SJVC Rancho Cordova invites you to join the Great Strides Walk for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

March 22, 2019

SJVC’s Rancho Cordova campus is inviting all students, staff, faculty, friends and family to register for the May 4th Great Strides Walk for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

This is the sixth year the Rancho Cordova campus will assemble a team that will volunteer at the event, raise money through registrations or walk the 5K track at Crocker Park in Sacramento.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic, life-shortening disease that makes it very difficult for those afflicted with it to breathe. This volunteer opportunity is a natural fit for the Rancho Cordova campus, which offers both Respiratory Therapy and Surgical Technology programs. “Cystic Fibrosis aligns with some treatments that our students are learning in their Respiratory Therapy program,” says Amy Bianco, Campus Dean. Those graduates will one-day treat patient symptoms of this prevalent disease.

SJVC’s Rancho Cordova campus had more than 40 team members at last year’s Great Strides Walk. “This event gives our Respiratory Therapy and Surgical Technology program students a chance to co-mingle, as many students are hardly ever in the same place at the same time,” Amy says. Participation also gives student volunteers community service credits toward Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society requirements.

This year’s fundraising goal is $145,000, and with just under two months left, sign-ups have already brought in almost $12,000.
