SJVC Fresno receives First Place in the Trade/Technical School category for Fresno Bee’s People’s Choice Awards

April 11, 2018

SJVC Fresno Campus ExteriorIn a loud and clear voice, Fresno consumers have spoken up and chosen SJVC’s Fresno campus for first place in the Trade/Technical School category of the Fresno Bee’s annual People’s Choice Awards.

Online voters chose their favorite businesses and service providers in over 100 categories such as restaurants, car dealerships and repair shops, retail shops and health care providers. As the local market and industries change, the Bee has added and discontinued categories to stay current.

“We’ve added categories for food trucks, because those are growing in popularity in Fresno,” says Carey Norton, the Bee’s Custom Publications Editor. “We’ve also added categories for home technology, something that barely even existed when we began this annual readers’ survey (in 2005).”

SJVC has made the “Best of” list several times in previous years, but this is the first time the college won top place. “We were thrilled to be selected for the prestigious honor,” says Dr. Sumer Avila, SJVC’s Vice Provost, Teaching and Learning. “We are grateful that students chose us. It is an honor to serve the community of Fresno, and we look forward to continuing to be the #1 career college in town.”

Readers of this consumer rating report are happy to have a guide that identifies businesses that local customers have singled out for their level of customer service and satisfaction. Many use this information to try new venues, goods and services, or to reaffirm their favorite go-to places.

“The Fresno Bee produces People’s Choice in an effort to serve our readers and to celebrate the good people and places of our community,” says Norton.

SJVC Fresno is happy that its commitment to students and graduates has resulted in the highest recommendations from those survey participants who selected the college as their first choice in this education category.

The Fresno campus offers 10 programs in business, medical and technical fields that offer both associate degrees and certificates. Students and graduates receive individual support that begins with career planning and ends with career placement services. Many career programs include online options for a more comfortable lifestyle fit.

“SJVC works to fulfill its mission of preparing graduates for their professions, and is committed to the success of every student,” says Dr. Avila. “This is evident from the focus on student success at every step of the educational process, and that places SJVC at the top.”

The Fresno campus will receive an award from the Bee to reflect their People’s Choice First Place win. “The plaque will go in the lobby, and guests and students, alike, can see that the community believes in what we are doing,” says Jerry Franksen, Fresno Campus President. “Our community recognizes that we connect well-trained students with the employers we serve, and we support the community with a strong workforce.”
