SJVC’s Veterinary Technology program helps you gain the skills you need to help animals when they need it most. This in-depth training covers all areas of animal patient care, from lab tests to radiology procedures and surgical assisting. Curriculum also focuses on communication skills involving pet owner education and counseling for the care of sick animals.

SJVC’s Veterinary Technology program helps you gain the skills you need to help animals when they need it most. Students Will Learn
Throughout SJVC’s Veterinary Technology program, students will learn:
- • Animal nursing fundamentals
- • Veterinary office practices
- • Diagnostic imaging
- • Laboratory procedures
Program Outcomes
Students can graduate and earn an Associate of Science degree in as few as 16 months.
SJVC’s Veterinary Technology program holds provisional accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), qualifying students to sit for the Registered Veterinary Technician (RTV) exam for state licensure immediately upon graduation. Careers
Veterinary assistants are qualified to provide support to a veterinarian in the treatment of animals. Graduates are also qualified to work in animal shelters, zoos and research facilities.
On the job, Veterinary Assistants can expect to perform the following duties:

- • Monitor animals under anesthesia
- • Perform radiology procedures
- • Assist in surgical procedures
- • Bathe, comfort & feed sick animals
- • Perform laboratory tests
