The Surgical Technology program prepares students to facilitate invasive, therapeutic and diagnostic surgical procedure. Students learn the theory and application of sterile techniques as well as human anatomy and surgical procedures. Graduates of this program earn an Associate of Science degree and are eligible to apply to NBSTSA to sit for the national certification examination.

Program instructors are Certified Surgical Technologists with high levels of experience and current education in the field. Students learn in a simulated operating room environment and participate in clinical rotations to gain direct experience in the field.
Career Information
Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon in clean, brightly lit, and relatively quiet environments such as hospitals and surgery centers. Surgical Technologists stand for most of the day and perform duties that require concentration for extended periods of time. Surgical Technologists enjoy job stability, a good salary and consistent work schedule.

SJVC's Surgical Technology courses are available in Bakersfield and Fresno, California. Classes meet Monday through Thursday with clinical rotations scheduled on Friday. Contact the campus nearest you for the most updated information.
Certifications Earned
Graduates of this program earn an Associate of Science degree, CPR certification and are eligible to apply to the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) National Certification Exam.
Programmatic Accreditation
San Joaquin Valley College's Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in cooperation with the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC-ST).
