Program Highlights

SJVC’s Respiratory Therapy program prepares you to be a member of an elite health care team that evaluates, treats and manages patients with respiratory illnesses and other cardiopulmonary disorders. In addition to performing respiratory care procedures, respiratory therapists are involved in clinical decision-making and patient education.

Students receive over 900 hours of extensive clinical practice in hospitals and clinics to gain real world experience.

Applicants must meet the technical standards to be considered for the Respiratory Therapy program.

Career Opportunities

Well-trained respiratory therapists are in tremendous demand in such areas as acute care hospitals, durable medical equipment companies, sub-acute facilities, home care agencies, physicians’ offices, or managed care organizations; as well as specialized areas, such as sleep labs and pulmonary function labs. Locations

SJVC's Respiratory Therapy courses are available in four locations across California. This includes Rancho Cordova up north, Visalia and Bakersfield near Central California, and Rancho Cucamonga in the south. With these four locations spread across California it is easy to find a SJVC branch offering Respiratory Therapy classes near you.

Certifications Earned

Graduates earn an Associate of Science degree and are eligible for state licensure and national credentialing examinations, including the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials. The Respiratory Care Board publishes institutional pass rate information.

Programmatic Accreditation

The Respiratory Therapy programs on the Rancho Cordova, Bakersfield, Visalia and Rancho Cucamonga campuses have been granted continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), 1248 Harwood Road, Bedford TX 76021, 1817283.2835; http://www.coarc.com. The Respiratory Therapy program on the Temecula campus of San Joaquin Valley College holds a Letter of Review from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (www.coarc.com ), Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care 1248 Harwood Road, Bedford, Texas 76021-4244, (817) 283-2835.
