The Respiratory Therapy program at San Joaquin Valley College will prepare you to become part of a specialized team of health-care professionals. In that role, you will evaluate, treat and monitor patients who have certain respiratory conditions or other types of cardio-pulmonary disorders. Once you complete your training, you will also participate in patient education and clinical decision-making in diagnosing and treating patients.
Eligibility
To be accepted into SJVC's unique respiratory therapy program, you must meet our established technical standards, and once admitted, you will participate in more than 900 hours of practice in area clinics and hospitals. This will provide you with an impressive amount of real-world experience.
Careers in Respiratory Therapy
Today, there is great demand for qualified respiratory therapists in sub-acute facilities, acute-care hospitals, home-care agencies, managed-care organizations, doctors' offices and medical equipment companies. In addition, specialized areas include pulmonary function laboratories and sleep laboratories.

After Completion of your Respiratory Therapy Program
When you complete your training at one of SJVC's campuses, you will receive an Associate of Science (AS) degree, and you will also be eligible for national credentialing and California licensure examinations.
