Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for the safe and accurate processing of prescription medications. A Pharmacy Tech, as they are often called, also performs various administrative tasks including answering phones, processing payments, and patient record keeping.
A Pharmacy Tech works in a clean well-lit environment such as a hospital or retail pharmacy. Nursing homes and assisted living facilities are also common employers. Pharmacy Technicians usually stand for most of the day and do not have a consistent work schedule. A Pharmacy Tech may work nights and weekends or even overnight depending on the place of employment.
Pharmacy Tech Schools, Classes and other training options
Most states require licensure with the department of pharmacy to qualify employment. Some Pharmacy Technicians receive on the job training, however many employers prefer candidates with formal education at an accredited school.
Pharmacy Tech schools provide many courses that cover the theoretical and practical applications of pharmacy principles. Most training includes a clinical externship in a pharmacy lab or facility. Most Pharmacy Tech Schools prepare graduates for licensure as well as private certifications.
