Medical Office Program
Get the Training You Need to Work in a Medical Office
SJVC’s Medical Office programs prepare graduates to work in front-office positions for a medical practice, healthcare facility or insurance company. Training helps students learn the skills required to start a career in administrative support in a healthcare environment. SJVC students can prepare for work in a healthcare office environment by choosing the credential level that best meets their needs and career goals.
The Certificate-level Medical Office Administration (MOA) programs offer all of the training required to provide basic administrative support in a medical office setting. Graduates of the Medical Billing Specialist (MBS) programs earn an Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree and benefit from advanced training in medical billing, coding and office management.
Throughout SJVC’s Medical Office program, students will learn:
- • Medical insurance principles
- • Medical office operations
- • Human relations
- • Medical law and regulations
An externship component allows students to gain hands-on experience under the direction of a medical office manager or director.
Graduates of the MOA programs can earn a Certificate of Completion in approximately 7 months, and students in the MBS programs can earn an A.S. Degree in approximately 14 months.
Graduates are eligible to take several national certification and credentialing examinations administered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Graduates also earn Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), AHA-Adult & Infant CPR, and First Aid Certification.

- • Assigning ICD-9 and CPT codes to claims
