SJVC’s Dental Assistant program trains you in all aspects of working with a dentist, including patient care, and office and laboratory duties. Our balance of hands-on experience and classroom instruction prepares students with the dental assisting skills and related theory they’ll need to perform on the job.
Whether you use your Dental Assistant training for a career chairside or in an administrative capacity, you are well prepared at the program’s completion.

Students Will Learn
Throughout SJVC’s Dental Assistant program, students will learn:
- • Dental anatomy and radiology
- • Dental software
- • Preventive dentistry
- • Dental practice management
- • Coronal polishing
Program Outcomes
Graduates will earn a Certificate of Completion, and can do so in as few as 11 months.
Graduates also earn certifications in CPR, Infection Control, Dental Law and Ethics, HIPAA, Dental Radiation Safety, Coronal Polish and Pit & Fissure Sealant. Graduates are eligible to take the Dental Board of California Examination for State Licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA).
The Dental Board of California publishes institutional pass rate information.

Dental assisting is an in-demand job with many work environment options available. As a dental assistant or dental office employee, you can expect to perform the following job duties:
- • Provide chairside assistance to the dentist
- • Take dental impressions
- • Coronal polish and fluoride treatments
- • Expose and process X-rays
- • Practice infection control procedures
- • Apply pit and fissure sealants
